Nolan right to hail health staff who treated beloved mum

Editor's Viewpoint

Stephen Nolan is an outstanding broadcaster and he knows it. But he also has the humility to know that when any of us are facing a real crisis in life his job doesn't really matter. If we are ill, like his elderly mother, it is the GPs, the paramedics, the nurses or the hospital doctors who do really important jobs.

His heartfelt thank you to everyone who looked after his mother reveals a man who has been given a new appreciation of life. He may be a high earner and a ferocious worker, but now he realises how slender the thread of life can be and how any of us, at any time, could need the often maligned heroes of the NHS.
