O'Neill and Keane to make for compelling viewing

Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane, the new management team for the Republic of Ireland, may seem like the odd couple, but they share one vital thing, a burning passion for the game.

That alone should make them compelling viewing in the months ahead as they seek to resurrect the fortunes of a team which has missed out on World Cup qualification.

But can the thoughtful, learned O'Neill and the more explosive Keane, the man Alex Ferguson described as having a savage tongue, really gel? That is a question which only time will tell. However, there is no doubt that the appointments will boost interest among the fans. The players, on the other hand, may approach the games with not a little trepidation. It is not a management team to make enemies of.
