Oscar nomination shows value of promoting film industry
Short films are a Northern Ireland speciality. The Shore won an Oscar in that category in 2012 and now another short, Boogaloo and Graham, has been nominated for a golden statue next month. That is global recognition of the film-making talent that exists in Northern Ireland and which has been one of the success stories of recent times.
But there is concern that budget cuts will mean less funding is available to help burgeoning talent get their ideas to the silver screen. That would be a shame since Northern Ireland has only recently become a hot location spot for film and television series makers and there is now a critical mass of people in the industry who can help it grow to greater things. A win for Boogaloo and Graham would be a tremendous fillip.
