Our beautiful game set to receive a long overdue facelift

The proposed investment of £36m in local soccer will be a tremendous boost to the sport. For too long the facilities at many grounds, at all levels of the game, have been allowed to wither from lack of funds.

The end result is that many spectators have found more enjoyable and comfortable ways to spend their leisure time.

Coming after the NI Executive's decision to bankroll the upgrading of Windsor Park, this latest proposal shows the commitment of local politicians to the game. Other sports like rugby and GAA have much superior facilities in many cases and it is fitting that the beautiful game should get its own makeover.
