For something so small and harmless, at least in this part of the world, spiders produce an often frenzied response.

Telephone calls and emails have been flooding into this office after a journalist told of capturing an arachnid, which she christened Bigfoot, on account of its size, inside her home.

It seems that more and more large spiders - only by local standards - are coming into homes early this year, leaving some householders terrified.

But according to the experts, people have nothing to fear from the insects, who only want to feast on flies. An investigation online can help ease fears - one reason to be thankful for the internet.
