Pagan recognition proves God moves in mysterious ways

We take our religion seriously in Northern Ireland but there will be many who will find it difficult to take seriously the latest body to be officially recognised as a church.

The Order of the Golden River is a pagan church and received sanction last month from the province's General Register Office.

Its founder and Sovereign is a former chef who says his true, or spiritual, name is Nighthunter and he admits he was surprised to be given official recognition. Not half as surprised as those who will read our story today. God, even a pagan one, indeed works in mysterious ways.
