There are few words left to describe AP McCoy, the supreme National Hunt jockey, whose 4,000-plus winners leaves him many furlongs ahead of anyone else in his field. What iron resolve it must take to drive thousands of miles every year, often to small tracks with only a few hundred spectators present, to risk life and limb in pursuit of as near perfection in the saddle as it is possible to get.
He is a man whose incredible achievements have never been fully recognised in an era where a single blaze of glory is sufficient to earn some sportsmen the accolade of greatness. He was a fitting winner of our Sportsman of the Year award last night. AP we salute you, a man of supreme talent and a very likeable human being as well.
