Politicians reveal caring side with touch of animal magic

Politics is full of shaggy dog stories, but it appears that our Stormont party leaders have their own affection for different kinds of domestic pets.

It seems that First Minister Arlene Foster prefers cats to dogs, possibly because felines strongly guard their own territory.

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness is obviously a dog lover, judging by the number of photos he tweets of his wife's pooch.

After this week's Assembly election we will see which of our politicians have taken the lead with the public, and which of them have been barking up the wrong tree when it comes to attracting votes.
