It was a very ambitious target but we have done it. More than 100,000 people – a record – took part in the Big Spring Clean.
That was a magnificent effort by all concerned, the statutory bodies and agencies and, most of all, the volunteers who gave up their time to restore the countryside to its scenic grandeur.
Too often in modern society people display a lack of civic pride. We have a country to be proud of and it is evident that tens of thousands of people agree with that sentiment. They are not content to just let the local authorities get on with the job of keeping it that way and are prepared, literally, to muck in. We are delighted to have played a part in the great clean-up and offer our thanks to all others who took part.
