Reward for boxing club that has young people in its corner

Most people regard boxing clubs as just facilities where young men - but also more and more girls - go to learn how to knock seven bells out of each other. Supporters will tell you that they are much more than that and that the sport also teaches discipline and is character-building.

Monkstown boxing club north of Belfast goes several steps further, providing breakfast and homework clubs, sports-related work placements and coaching sessions. It attracts otherwise hard-to-reach young people, gives them goals in life and helps keep them away from bad influences. Its National Lottery award win shows it is just champion.
