Right up to speed

Ballyclare teenager Joanna Mills gave the best possible answer to the selectors who dropped her from the Irish relay squad for the Olympics - she was reinstated on appeal - by running a season's best time and close to her personal best at the World Junior Championships.

Her place in the squad should never have been in doubt given past performances and she has shown tremendous focus and resolve to maintain her form in spite of the selection fiasco.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of a very successful international career for an inspirational young girl.
