Roads deaths doubly devastating at a time of celebration

An accidental death at any time of the year is tragic, but it takes on an added poignancy if it occurs in the days leading up to Christmas, the traditional time of rejoicing. In the past few days we have had two deaths on our roads, including that of a young boy in Fermanagh, and several other people injured, some very seriously.

For the families involved this will be a bleak Christmas, with many years of sad anniversaries to follow.

The annual death toll on the roads should remind all of us of the need to exercise the utmost care every time we leave home, whether driving or as a pedestrian.
