Sale of cheap alcohol adding to social disorder

The pictures in today's Belfast Telegraph will help to underline the extent of the problem of drunkenness and bad behaviour among many young people on a night out. It is important to stress that not everyone behaves in this way, and many young people are able to enjoy themselves without creating problems.

However, excessive drinking is becoming a significant social problem, which is fuelled by the current practice of young people "pre-loading" on cheaper drink even before they head on out to a nightclub or pub.

The sale of cheap alcohol, with the resultant bad behaviour, needs to be tackled at the highest level before it blights the lives of even more young people and creates further social mayhem.
