Season of goodwill fills us with hope of a bright new year
Christmas is a bittersweet time of the year. It is an occasion when families make a real effort to come together to enjoy the festivities and enter into the spirit of the season. But it is also a time when those who are no longer with us are remembered and accidents on our roads in recent days have created more empty chairs around the table.
In the wider world there have been numerous examples of the most horrific barbarism, mostly recently the massacre of schoolchildren in Pakistan.
But Christmas is above all a time of hope and we wish all our readers a happy and joyous time in anticipation of a new year.
