Sister Carmel was a shining example of Christian grace

The large attendance at the funeral of Sister Carmel Martin, who died last Friday, was a tribute to her long service in the Sacred Heart parish in north Belfast.

Her sudden death at only 60 years of age has stunned the people across the parish and beyond it, and Fr Martin Magill spoke for many when he said that she was "a larger than life character who was "very much regarded as a part of the community".

Sister Carmel was a woman who represented the often under-recognised values of self-sacrifice, humility, kindness and grace.

As such, her life was a tribute to her Christian vocation and calling.
