Somme reunion a poignant reminder of poet's words

A century after the bloody Battle of the Somme, accounts of the heroism performed there are still being uncovered, as our report today of the remarkable bond between two Co Armagh families demonstrates.

The descendants of an officer and of a Tandragee soldier whose life he saved have met up after a chance conversation revealed their battlefield connection.

It is fitting that in this centenary year more of the heroic stories of the Somme are coming to light and are being celebrated. And the poet's words - At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them - have a new vibrancy after all this time.
