Stormont should hear Una's appeal for hospice help
Una Crudden is a remarkable woman – that is why she was chosen as the Belfast Telegraph Woman of the Year 2014.
Although terminally ill, she continues to campaign from her NI Hospice bed for funding to help complete the rebuilding of this vital, caring institution. The money involved is miniscule in government terms – £2.5m – but it may fall to the public to find the cash.
That is a pity. The money wasted at Stormont through the duplication of services in education, the widespread use of consultants, the overspend on projects – the list just goes on – would have realised Una's dream many times over.
Sadly Una's plea is likely to be heard only by the ordinary people on the street, not the purse-holders at Stormont.
