Stunning sand portrait sure to put city on the map

By any measure it is an astonishing work of art. Covering 11 acres in Belfast's dockland, the land portrait, called Wish, is so enormous in scale that it can only fully be appreciated from the air.

Look at the pictures on the Belfast Telegraph website and gasp in amazement at the creativity of Cuban artist, Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada.

This sculpture will certainly put Belfast on the map and it would be no surprise to see more passengers using Belfast City Airport just to catch a glimpse of it. The art will not have the enduring appeal of Gateshead's Angel of the North – nature will take its course in a relatively short time – so enjoy it while you can and spread the word that Northern Ireland is no cultural backwater.
