It was almost a catastrophic own-goal as it appeared supporters would have no fanzone to support the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland teams in their crunch last-16 Euro matches this weekend after the Belsonic music festival took over the Titanic Quarter site.

But this newspaper rescued the game by highlighting the debacle, and senior politicians stepped in to ensure that a new site at Boucher Road in Belfast would be readied to show the matches on big screens.

It is the news that all the fans wanted to hear, and in keeping with the scoring during the games in France it is appropriate that the Belfast Telegraph has helped create a last-minute winner.
