The pathway to peace is a game of give and take

As the Haass talks on the past, flags and parades enter their endgame, the parties should heed the words of Prime Minister David Cameron who urged them to display some give and take.

Given the polarised views still held by many in this society, it is obvious that any proposals going before the parties will be met with divided opinions.

But as the parties made their really major concession in agreeing to form a power- sharing government, they should now show the same spirit of compromise in an attempt to build on the peace they so bravely helped to create.

They cannot continue to rely on outsiders jetting in to solve the problems facing Northern Ireland.
