Time we swung into action and acclaimed Rory more
As a province we are very coy about our sporting heroes. Take the example of Rory McIlroy who has the potential to be the greatest sports star Northern Ireland has ever produced. He and other golf champions may be used in tourism literature, but do their home towns make enough of them?
Perhaps Holywood thinks such self-serving publicity would be a little crass, but why doesn't it promote itself vigorously as the place where the best golfer in the world learned to play? And make sure that visitors paid a premium - which they would willingly do - to play the same course. Our sports stars are unpaid ambassadors, so let us avail of them.
