Tommy, take a Bowe

Congratulations to Tommy Bowe, the sole Ulster player to make the Lions squad which is due to tour Australia this summer.

That will be a great boost to the player who spent most of the past season out injured. He is a dynamic winger and will add a cutting edge to the team. However, he, like many others, will wonder how Ulster hooker Rory Best missed out on selection.

Best has consistently proved himself the equal of, if not better than, his rivals from the other home countries. While his performances in some of the Six Nations matches fell below his usual very high standards, he can count himself unfortunate to be watching the tour on television rather than taking part.

However, he will doubtlessly be cheering on the Lions who have every chance of success.
