Trolls cannot undo Judith Gillespie's achievements

The impending retirement of the Deputy Chief Constable Judith Gillespie is an opportunity for people to reflect on the considerable achievement of a woman who has given a lifetime of service to the police.
She initially had to overcome a bias within the force at a time when women had to fight male prejudice, but her distinguished career will make it easier for other women to reach high rank.
Like many officers she had to endure malicious campaigns against her, and the treatment of Judith Gillespie on social media has been particularly nasty because of the exploitation of the fact that she is a woman.
People who deliberately stalk and 'troll' others in this way need to be aware that in very serious cases their actions, in the last resort, could lead to severe criminal sanctions.
The arm of the law is longer than some people realise.
