Twitter must take action against internet idiots

The despairing thing about social media is that it gives a platform to the most moronic in society. They may always have been there, but now they can invade your computer, tablet or telephone with their vile, imbecilic utterances, often with impunity.

That is why footballer Stan Collymore, who has been subjected to horrific racist abuse in recent days, is right to call on those who control social media like Twitter or Facebook to take more robust action against the trolls.

They must exercise greater moderation of comments and also be willing to give police immediate information to help track down offenders.
