Una Crudden was an extraordinary women and a huge inspiration
It takes a remarkable person to think of others when they have just been told that their own life has little time left to run. Yet that was the reaction of Una Crudden when she was given a terminal ovarian cancer diagnosis five years ago. She felt that the warning signs of the disease had been missed and campaigned for an awareness programme that could save the lives of other women.
Her tireless harassment of politicians at local authority and Stormont levels earned her a hugely deserved Belfast Telegraph Woman of the Year award. Her family have vowed to carry on her work - and that will be a fitting legacy for an extraordinary woman.
