Unity is needed in opposition to child beauty 'pageant'

It is re-assuring to know that some Belfast city councillors are strongly opposing plans by a Texas-based company to stage a 'child pageant' in Belfast.

This distasteful development is nothing less than the sexual exploitation of children, especially as this so-called child 'pageant' features a bikini-clad girl of six dancing to a suggestive song.

Even the thought of this will alarm every parent, as well as each person with the best interests of children at heater.

In a world where children are exploited in so many ways, sexually and otherwise, there is no reason for such an appalling 'pageant' to be staged in Belfast or anywhere else.

People from all backgrounds should oppose it totally.
