Unsung heroes

Published 11/03/2011

It is not often that Northern Ireland's garrulous housewife, May McFettridge is rendered speechless, but that is what happened when her alter ego, John Linehan, was given the Belfast Telegraph's Making The Difference award for his outstanding charity work. The money he raises away from the spotlight says it all about this very popular entertainer. But every winner, indeed every entrant, to our inaugural awards was someone special. Every day ordinary people do extraordinary things to help make their community a better place and our awards have helped to give some of these unsung heroes their moment in the sun. Without them Northern Ireland would be an infinitely poorer place.
