We can learn lessons from Kerri's elephant sanctuary

Kerri McCrea is another example of a talented Northern Ireland graduate who is making a difference. In her case, she is improving the life of elephants through her work in establishing a sanctuary in Thailand by rescuing the animals from a life of drudgery and returning them to the wild.

But she has married her caring venture with ensuring that local people who relied on the elephants as a tourist attraction still benefit from their presence, bringing income to the local economy. Essentially everyone, including the animals, is still a winner. That is the sort of lateral thinking that is needed here to create a more prosperous society.
