We need showcase ground to help bring back glory
The redevelopment of Windsor Park's South Stand may result in the physical demolition of a piece of historic football real estate, but it cannot erase memories of the many wonderful days and nights when Northern Ireland's footballers etched their names in the sport's history. The most recent was the defeat of England, but there were also wonderful World Cup performances, Home International games and, of course, Linfield's century and more of local league success.
It is 100 years since the stand was erected and the stadium is long overdue its current major upgrade.
Northern Ireland football needs a showcase ground where future generations can make their own history and, hopefully, bring back the glory days to the province.
At least they won't be able to blame the pitch or the facilities if they don't perform to expectations.
