Even those who are not committed royalists will welcome the additional national holiday on April 29 when Prince William and Kate Middleton will get married.
A day off work is certainly a cause for celebration in these days of drudgery in so much of the workplace and also a fitting way to mark the joyous event.
Unlike Scotland, the Northern Ireland Assembly did not have to vote on the issue, which is just as well given its recent record. The wedding would probably have been over before a decision on how to mark it was agreed.
