Widow’s desire to overcome adversity is truly humbling
Maureen Goddard has shown remarkable fortitude in staying on in a city that has caused her such agony. She still lives in east Belfast, a short distance from where her husband was brutally murdered just over two years ago, and where she has suffered racist abuse and intimidation.
Her determination to overcome the bigotry, to rebuild her life and to give something back to those who helped her in her darkest days shows the sort of resilience that is humbling. What this community needs is more people like her, people who have not allowed their humanity and faith in others to be eroded even by the foulest of deeds.
