Women in top gear

Nearly 1m viewers have had a good giggle at the YouTube video of a woman taking 30 minutes to parallel park her car in Belfast, with many suggesting it proves women drivers are hopeless.

Well our intrepid writer Frances Burscough upheld the good name of the fairer sex when we set her the challenge of taking on a male driver in some basic driving tests.

See how she got on in our Life cover story today.

It was interesting to compare the impressions of our guinea pigs on how they performed with the analysis of their experienced driving instructor.

He found they had a common fault, lack of observation, especially when reversing. This could have lethal consequences.

But his view is that women drivers are more careful than men. Take a bow Frances.
