You did us proud, Rory, despite difficult time on course

This week's Irish Open has been a triumph for Northern Ireland, even if the Ulster contingent failed to rise to the top.

The local organisers have shown that Royal County Down can stage a major sporting event as well as anyone, and this augurs well for an Open at Royal Portrush.

A major disappointment was Rory McIlroy's poor showing, but he emerged yet again as one of our finest ambassadors.

Full marks are due to all concerned with this great achievement.
