Female gorilla Kamili is like many new mothers, fiercely protective of her baby. Indeed she has keep such a tight hold on the baby born on March 30 that it is only now that keepers at Belfast Zoo have been able to pronounce that it is a girl, called Kibibi.

Now that Kamili has relaxed a little, the new arrival is starting to explore her surroundings and may soon meet up with dad.

He no doubt is feeling quite proud having fathered another baby by a different mum last year. Well, isn't it often said that primates are just like humans?

Or perhaps he was just proving a point after doubts had been cast on his virility.
