Entrepreneurial spirit is just what our city needs
With many entertainment businesses under increasing pressure, surely we should be applauding any entrepreneur who shows imagination and innovation in trying to woo customers. Eamon McCusker, owner of AM:PM in the heart of Belfast, came up with the idea of a roof garden restaurant, the only one in Northern Ireland.
But planning officials say his development, which includes extensive facades to the complex, is not in keeping with the conservation area around his business and are demanding that he dismantle the work. Yes, he should have got planning permission first before going ahead with the work, but encouraging enterprise should take priority over enforcing strict planning rules. Perhaps common sense will win out in the end.
