A failure to take lead on vital issues
There is something oddly perverse about the editorials in the Belfast Telegraph. Those who write them have a capacity to disconnect one action from another, absolving themselves of any responsibility. The clearest example of this is the juxtaposition of last Wednesday's editorial, which lambasted Reg Empey for attempting to force a change of the Executive, with Friday's, calling for Caitriona Ruane, to change tack.
The opportunity to resolve this mess was at the beginning of the week, but the Belfast Telegraph failed to give a lead, having been caught up in the 'peace-process-must-survive' spin from the two governments.
