A party for the working class

Published 09/11/2009

Much rubbish has been written about the Conservative Party over the years, but 'Concerned Unionist' (Writeback, November 4) may be up for the top prize.

Your nameless correspondent quotes the maverick columnist Roy Garland's false claim that local party members are reluctant to canvass in working-class areas. That is simply not true - our Party is the only party organised throughout the UK, and it campaigns and canvasses for votes throughout constituencies, working-class or not, as evidenced by our success in the Crewe and Nantwich by-election.

The truth is that the Conservative Party are the party of aspiration for hard-working people of whatever means or background, and we will be out canvassing for their votes with our friends in the UUP come the general election.
