A ripple effect will hit jobs if aquarium axed

I AM writing to express my dismay at the news that the development committee of Ards Borough Council has recommended that Exploris, Northern Ireland's only aquarium, should be closed.

Not only will this mean loss of employment for those working there; there will be a negative impact on many other facilities within the area.

Exploris brought an annual footfall of 100,000 people to Portaferry, a village that was already disadvantaged in terms of employment and other measures before the current recession.

This closure will severely impact on other businesses within the town and on ferry traffic.
