Finola Meredith has missed the point again regarding the abortion debate.
The Northern Ireland legal position is not responsible for the tragic death of Savita Hallappanavar in the Irish Republic. We have different legislation in Northern Ireland. Our law allows for abortion if a mother's life is at risk, as well as in cases where there is a severe risk to her physical or mental health.
Our law is a good one because it recognises the value of both the mother and child's life. It seeks to give equal value to both lives.
Our law seeks to protect life not to destroy it. We have seen enough killing in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. Our law on abortion should be given respect for trying to preserve life.
