Abortion rant showed up your own hysteria

Monday, 20 February 2012

Your columnist, Fionola Meredith, claims "It's time to cut out hysteria in debate on abortion here" (February 15, 2012) but she then launches into another hysterical diatribe against Precious Life, while declining to actually mention the group by name.

As in her previous articles, Fionola criticises Precious Life for showing "foul pictures ... gruesome leaflets and ghastly images of aborted foetuses". Once again, Fionola is inadvertently acknowledging that abortion is foul, gruesome and ghastly.

She implies that we are "narrow-minded" if we think that showing such pictures will - in her own words - "stop someone from murdering the little baby inside them."

Fionola, however, gave us a back-handed compliment when she said Precious Life have "succeeded in shifting the entire discourse about reproductive rights on to moral grounds."

We are pleased that we have been successful in showing the public that killing a baby in the womb is morally wrong and has nothing to do with so-called "reproductive rights".

She calls our politicians "disgraceful". Our pro-life politicians should be congratulated. They have shown they are genuinely concerned about equal rights and opportunities for women.

Why my kids feel Olympics are not the real thing now

I did quite well in my school exams, but the only thing for which I can confidently say I stood out like a beacon among my fellow pupils was my record-breaking 100-metres dash.

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Why bringing up our kids should be child's play... or maybe it's not

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
