Action needed to address the education gap

Every year Northern Ireland congratulates itself on having the best exam results in the UK and this year has been no different, with headlines announcing improvements in performance in both the grammar and non-grammar sectors.

As always, the league tables are only part of the story, as we have the largest gap between the highest achievers and the lowest achievers in Europe, as measured by the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), with a greater number of students leaving school with few (or no) qualifications.
