Adams' demise may bring down peace process

Published 05/12/2013

ED Curran (DebateNI, December 2) misses the point entirely when he gives his analysis of Gerry Adams' leadership of Sinn Fein.

The reality is that he is still leader of Sinn Fein and will remain so as long as he is a big vote-winner.

Every Sinn Fein supporter knows that, should Gerry Adams resign as leader, the party would immediately go into decline.

The problem for the peace process is that as soon as Gerry Adams', or Sinn Fein's, support is dented, these republicans will bring the whole show down. So we need to tread carefully.
