... and here's how to end the debate

Published 23/08/2012

How to end the debate about creationism? Simple. Apply a simple logic test to distinguish scientific theory from religious belief.

If it's scientific theory, it will have both religious and non-religious adherents. If it's religious belief, only the religious will believe it to be true.

Example: The earth is 4.5 billion-years-old. Believed by most non-religious and most religious people, too.

Conclusion: scientific theory.

Example: The earth is 6,000-years-old. Only believed by fundamentalist Christians. Not believed by any geology, or palaeontology, department, or journal in the world.

Conclusion: religious belief.
