Any alternative to stun guns?

Recently on Good Morning Ulster, Sinn Fein councillor Martina Anderson was asked by Seamus McKee what her alternative to using stun guns would be. She declined to comment, pointing out the Chief Constable is charged to find a suitable non-fatal means of dealing with violent situations.

As the Assembly is preparing to take responsibility for Criminal Justice, would this not be a good time to have Ms Anderson chair a committee to find a replacement for the weapon of which she has been so critical.

Might I suggest that she visits Iran, China, Russia, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, USA and even some of our European neighbours, offering some advice along the way.

She may well find that her Shangri-La of a totally painless, noiseless, non-aggressive alternative does not exist !
