Assange issue is death penalty

Rape is a serious offence and Julian Assange (News, August 20) should not be immune from facing up to those allegations. However, Assange sought asylum not to avoid rape allegations but to avoid extradition to the US on an unrelated matter, in which the US has refused to guarantee the death penalty will not be sought.
