I AM writing in the hope that one or more of your readers may be able to put in me in contact with relatives who may be in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. My father Joseph William West came from a family of nine and grew up on a small farm near Drum (Co Monaghan). My father emigrated to Australia in 1921. Two of my father's brothers were John Francis West and Alfred Albert West, born at Lurganboy in 1896 and 1900 respectively.
My father's sister Mary Jane married John William Smyth in the Drum Presbyterian Church on April 6 1920. John William Smyth was a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary. I understand that they had five children (3 boys and 2 girls) Lily, John, Marjorie, Cecil and Lenie.
I am aware that in 1983 David West - a first cousin of mine - was studying at Queen's University, Belfast. The West family farm at Drum was sold in 1922. My father's parents were John James West and Elizabeth (nee Kells).
I would appreciate information that may lead to tracing my relatives as I would like to travel to Ireland.
My contact details are: 117 Cullys Road, Lancefield, Victoria 3435, Australia or send emails to: kathyprangeg@gmail.com.
