Aviva a lesson for Windsor

The new Aviva Stadium at Lansdowne Road in Dublin, redesigned and entirely rebuilt in the middle of a big residential area, is going to be a spectacular venue for rugby, soccer and other major events.

On a recent public guided tour of the stadium, I found the whole experience backstage in the dressing rooms, reception areas and press rooms, as well as pitch-side and high up in the grandstands, highly recommendable.

It shows just what can be done with a bit of vision, innovation and good communication with local people — and on a tight site surrounded by a residential area.

Maybe some ideas here for IFA to take note of in light of the continuing debate about the upgrading of Windsor Park.

The Aviva is an iconic sporting venue for the future.

Windsor Park could achieve the same result on a smaller scale.
