Backing call by MPs for ban on microbeads

Published 26/08/2016

I welcome the news MPs are calling for a global ban on plastic microbeads in cosmetic and industrial cleansing products.

Plastic microbeads bypass wastewater filtration systems and can find their way into the stomachs of fish, seabirds and other marine life. This contributes to the 250,000 tonnes of plastic in the world's oceans.

We are pleased to join businesses such as Unilever and L'Oreal, who have already pledged to eliminate microbeads.

As an industry, we should step forward and not wait for legislation to force positive change.
