BBC award list neglects our Paralympians

Published 30/11/2012

So, the shortlist for the BBC Sports Personalty of the Year award has been released.

I am sure that no two people will agree on the 12 names, but there are two glaring omissions, as far as I am concerned: Jason Smyth and Michael McKillop, who both won double Paralympic gold.

Perhaps it is because they competed for Team Ireland, rather than Team GB - but there are exceptions.

Barry McGuigan, who came from Cavan, won the award in 1985 and Frankie Dettori - an Italian - came third in 1996.

But, whatever the reasons, I believe that Jason and Michael should have both been on the shortlist.
