The Greeks are in a state of chassis, meaning the vast majority of the people are at the pin of their collars trying to make ends meet. They’re hardly to be envied.
However, what I feel sure they can do without is being lectured, even ridiculed, by a self-righteous bunch of pompous asses.
Among the purveyors of this sanctimonious humbug are a number of senior Irish politicians. That they know no better is hardly surprising; it is nonetheless contemptible behaviour.
Ancient and modern history tells us that the Greeks are a tough, creative and resourceful people. We should assure them of whatever help we can give.
